The application of Information Technology (IT) is closely associated with markets in developed countries, where capital-intensive methods of agricultural production are commonly employed. However, in a country like India, where the rural population forms a significant part of the society, the relevance of IT cannot be overlooked. IT has the potential not only to help farmers improve the efficiency and productivity of agriculture and related activities but also to bring about an overall qualitative improvement in their lives. By providing timely and accurate information for decision-making, IT can be effectively utilized to strengthen supply chains for agro-based companies, thereby enabling better price realization for farmers.

The rapid growth of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has had a transformative impact on essential aspects of human life, such as agriculture, education, and healthcare. However, the moderate technical growth of ICT applications is often confined to a limited number of individuals living in digitally connected areas, leaving a significant portion of the population underserved.

Access to and availability of information are crucial factors in making optimal decisions at the right time. While advancements in ICT have made it possible to retrieve almost any information from global repositories, farmers in India often face challenges in accessing critical information related to farming. These challenges include issues such as understanding the farming life cycle, selecting the right seeds, using appropriate pesticides, and staying updated on market prices. This lack of access hinders farmers’ ability to make informed decisions at various stages of the farming process, which in turn negatively impacts their revenue.to address these challenges, we have developed an IT solution tailored to the Indian farming community. This solution provides an intuitive interface that enables farmers to access agricultural information from global internet repositories and store it locally for ease of use. The system is designed to address the specific needs of Indian farmers and includes text-to-speech functionality to enhance accessibility. Each module of the solution is described in detail, highlighting the identified challenges and observations. These insights have motivated our in-depth research, aimed at empowering Indian farmers and improving their proficiency in managing agricultural activities.
